Peggy Hillier Thompson
Peggy Hillier Thompson departed this world March 25, 2022, bound for the Promised Land to be with her Lord.
Her beloved husband, Dr. Ron Thompson, left this world on October 24, 2013. She had been eager to see him again ever since.
They had enjoyed 53 years of marriage. There was never a day she didn’t miss him and never a day she didn’t want to tell him she loved him. Now they are together in that eternal home where there are no tears, no sorrow, and no separation.
Peggy was born on November 16, 1940, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and grew up in Plain Dealing.
She graduated from Plain Dealing High School in 1958. Throughout her life she maintained friendships with many in her graduation class. These friends were dear to her heart, providing comfort particularly after the loss of her husband.
After graduation from high school, Peggy attended Ayers Business College in Shreveport. She then began a vocation working as a secretary and medical transcriptionist. This proved to be a great asset, as Ron continued his education from undergraduate to PhD over the first 12 years of their marriage.
Through every step of the way, across two states and several hospital locations, Peggy’s work helped support the family.
After Ron accepted a professorship at Louisiana Tech, the family settled in Ruston. Peggy was employed at Lincoln General Hospital as a medical transcriptionist for 25 years.
Peggy is also preceded in her death by both of her parents G. H. (Pete) Hillier and Blanche Blanton Hillier.
Peggy is survived by her four children, Bart Thompson (Karina), Rusty Thompson (Anne), Robin Copeland (Duncan), and Charlie Thompson (Paige); one sister, Beverly Simm; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was an active member of Temple Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Glenda White Love Sunday School Class. These ladies were special friends who helped her along life’s way. They were sisters in Christ and always there for each other.
Peggy was a faithful member of the Happy Gardeners’ Garden Club, where she met many special friends.
Peggy’s Life Celebration will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Peggy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens.
Ministers will be her grandson, Pastor Andrew Thompson; Pastor Dale Oden; and her son, Bart Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Riley Thompson, Conner Thompson, Collin Thompson, Luke Copeland, Ryan Szrama, and Colin Pond.
