Gail Hanchey Bearden

Mrs. Gail Hanchey Bearden passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Willis Knighton Pierremont after a brief illness.

A visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, at First Baptist Shreveport. Services were held at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Frost Chapel. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. at Springhill City Cemetery, in Springhill, Louisiana.

Officiating was Ronney Joe Webb of First Baptist Shreveport.

Gail was born February 26, 1937, to Robert and Lerlind Hanchey in Kinder. She was a member of First Baptist Shreveport, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, a Licensed Louisiana Funeral Director, Licensed Louisiana Real Estate Agent, Louisiana Education Association, Webster Parish Education Association, Louisiana Administrators of Education Association, and State President of the Louisiana Arthritis Foundation.

She served as an educator for 38 years as an education professional, outstanding administrator in Webster Parish, where she served as the long-time principal at Browning Elementary School. She was a teacher in both Webster and Claiborne Parish schools, before serving as principal.

She served as the President of the Webster Parish Teacher organization for 7 years. She spent 17 years as a Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Bearden was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lerlind Hanchey; husband, Collie S. Bearden and brother-in-law Thomas Dennis.

She is survived by her daughter, Leisa Roseman Haynes (Roger) of Shreveport; grandson, John Robert Tarrant of Shreveport; sisters, Dr. Lilyan Lerlind Hanchey of Shreveport, and Bobbye Hanchey Dennis of Little Rock, Arkansas; nephews, Robert E. Dennis (Jane), and James T. Dennis (Susan), of Little Rock, Arkansas; great nieces, Lindsey Harrison (Ryan) of Washington, D.C., Sidney Dennis of Memphis, Tennessee; great-nephews, Thomas Dennis of Dallas, Texas and Pearson Dennis, Little Rock, Arkansas; nephew by marriage, Ronnie Bearden of Midland, Texas; and a number of very close cousins and many wonderful friends.

Pallbearers were James Dennis, John Robert Tarrant, Daniel Pevy, Roger Haynes, Gary Elliott, and Shannon Elliott. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Dennis, Ben Hanchey, Jimmy Hanchey, Herman Tyler, and Tim Hanson.

The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to First Baptist Church of Shreveport, the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, or charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Village Healthcare at the Glen, Encompass Rehab, Willis Knighton Pierremont and Post-Acute Medical Specialty Hospital Pierremont.
