Mickey Slaughter
Funeral services for Mickey Slaughter will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in the chapel at Temple Baptist Church Sanctuary in Ruston. Dr. Reggie Bridges, Dale Oden and Reverend Denny Duron will officiate.
Following the service, there will be a private family burial. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Temple Baptist Church.
Mickey Slaughter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, died peacefully in Ruston, on April 8, 2023. His life was filled with the love of Jesus, his family, Louisiana Tech and the thousands of people who influenced and were influenced by him. Mickey was the oldest of four children, born on August 22, 1941, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Dorothy & H. E. Slaughter. He is preceded in death by his siblings, John Carter Slaughter and Steven Wheeler Slaughter and his parents.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Patty; his three children, Heidi Slaughter, Michael Slaughter ( Lori), and Bobby Slaughter ( Kristen); eight grandchildren, Mickey Loos ( Stephanie), Lexie Lenihan ( Joey), Troy Alexander, Jedd Alexander, Lauren Scriber ( Seth), Jake Slaughter ( Caroline), Sydney Claire Sommer (Matthew) and Jackson Slaughter; six great grandchildren, Mason and Emme Loos, Coley Lenihan, Leah, Lila and Isaac Scriber; sister, Cindy Lewis ( Mike), Sister- In- Law Sharyn Slaughter; brother in law, Bob Striker (Donna); and many other cherished family and friends. Mickey was born in Monroe, and graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria. Upon graduation, Mickey attended Louisiana Tech University where he was an All-American quarterback and then drafted by the Denver Broncos. After retirement from the Denver Broncos, Mickey returned to Louisiana Tech to become the Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach for 13 Years.
He was inducted into the Louisiana Tech Hall of Fame in 1987. After coaching, he used his Master of Business Administration degree to work for William A. Marbury at Southern States General Agency where he eventually became President for the remainder of his career. Mickey retired on November 30, 2014, and then later was inducted into the Ark-La-Tex Sports Museum of Champions in 2016.
Mickey will always be remembered by his “larger than life” personality, generosity and his desire to be an encourager to all. He was a faithful, long-time member of Temple Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, High School Boys Sunday School Teacher and mentor to many.
Pallbearers will be Mickey’s grandsons, Mickey Loos, Troy Alexander, Jedd Alexander, Jake Slaughter, Jackson Slaughter, Seth Scriber, Joey Lenihan, Matthew Sommer and Larry Mc-Cartney.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Billy Bundrick, Wayne Causey, Bruce Cowan, Bill Cox, James Davison, Jim Davison, Steve Davison, Todd Davison, Mark Davison, Randy Graham, Robert Hill, Dr. Larry Neal, Wayne Parker, the late Charlie Bourgeois and former teammates, coaches and players.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Benson Grigsby, Dr. Michael Langiulli and his caregivers at Alpine Rehabilitation Center in Ruston. We would also like to thank Kathy Hall, Dr. Aaron Marquardt, and the nurses of the ICU unit of the Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Temple Baptist Church or the Louisiana Tech University Athletic Foundation.
