Memorial services for Gwendolyn Veleta Duplantier, 72, will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grambling, LA. Reverend Anthony C. Slack will officiate the services. “Ms. D”, as she was fondly called by all, was born on May 19, 1938 in Atlanta, GA. She died April 10, 2011 at Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, TX. She was blessed with a wonderful mixture of gifts from God. She used her gifts to touch so many lives through a ministry of music and mentoring. Her sense of humor was priceless and her dedication and loyalty were unsurpassed. For these reasons, she will always be remembered and the seeds she sowed will be reaped for generations to come. Surviving her are her sons, Jon-Al (Devra) of Katy, TX and André (Lestavia) of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Jon Christopher, Haile Danielle, Devin Charles, André Lavell II and Jayden Alexander; a wonderful “Sister” in Deborah Lyde Sims of College Park, GA; a sister, Carmen Clemons of Jonesboro, GA; a cousin, Annette Morehead of Detroit MI, a sister- and brother-in-law, Veronica Williams (Will) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Jim “Jimmie” Duplantier of Tallahassee, FL; four nephews, Ronald Sims II (Carol) and Reginald Sims (Kismet) of Atlanta, GA, Jim Duplantier of San Antonio, TX, and Chant Duplantier of Dallas, TX; two nieces, Jill (Demontrell) Gibbs of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Danielle Williams of Houston, TX; and three great nephews, Ronald Sims III, Reginald Sims II, and Javion Gibbs; two great nieces, Harper Sims and Jillian Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 15, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Lincoln Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Our Christian Funeral Home of Ruston.
