The Ruston volleyball team is on fire. There’s no other way to say it.
Five straight wins. Fifteen straight sets won. Winners of 18 of their last 20 sets.
With three weeks left in the regular season, the Bearcats improved to 19-6 overall and 3-0 in district after rattling off three more victories in sweeps over Haughton (25-19, 25-20, 25-10), Pineville ( 25- 2, 25- 13, 25-8), and Ouachita (259, 25-14, 25-14).
The Bearcats have not dropped a set since Sept. 23 and return Tuesday to the Ruston Sports Complex with an opportunity to win the District 2-1 title.
“I’m honestly glad we handled business this week without losing focus,” Ruston head coach Amanda Cauley said. “I saw a lot of good things from different players, and we got to see everybody play this week. I got to see people step up in different ways and that was good to see. It was good to develop depth, but I’m ready to get on the other side of homecoming and focus on the last part of our season and really take it up a notch when we get back.”
Hannah Rollins led the team with 26 kills over the week, while Jade Smith and Harper Cauley had 17 each. Cala Wilson ended with 10 kills over the three wins, while Shelby Freeman put down 4 kills.
Rollins and Harper were effective at the service line as well, with the duo putting up 4 and 11 aces respectively. Allie Richardson and Baylor Cauley each had 7 service aces as well. Baylor also dished out 64 assists over the week.
Ruston closes district play at home vs ASH (99, 1-2 district) on Tuesday at the Ruston Sports Complex. The varsity match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
