The Louisiana Tech soccer team notched a big victory over Florida International 2-1 to give the Bulldogs momentum heading into a weekend match with Liberty.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (5-93, 2-3-2) picked up their fifth win on the season against the FIU Panthers (8-4-3, 3-1-3) in a 2-1 victory in Miami on Sunday afternoon, handing FIU its first conference loss of the year.
Louisiana Tech’s defense stood strong in the first half, with goalkeeper Emma Duguay having six saves.
In the second period, the Bulldogs came out hot putting up back-toback goals. Junior Avery Kyle would score in the 52nd minute breaking the tiebreaker.
Graduate student Jose Studer would add to the score after a 58thminute goal via penalty.
FIU would cut into the lead with a goal from Nikole Solis assisted by Camille Sahirul.
Head coach Steve Voltz said postgame, “I am extremely proud of these women for coming on the road and fighting for this win. It is not easy to train to have to fly and play but these women did and I am very proud of them.
“This win doesn’t lock us in for the conference tournament but keeps us in the hunt. FIU is a good conference opponent and I am very proud of them for getting this win,” he added.
Tech faces Liberty on Sunday at Robert Mack Caruthers Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
