The Ruston Police Department released this screenshot of doorbell camera footage showing a failed vehicle burglary attempt amidst a string of other vehicle burglaries across Ruston last weekend. The RPD announced Friday arrests have been made in the incident.
Ruston police have arrested two men in connection with last weekend’s string of vehicle burglaries. They’ve also arrested two other men suspected of burglarizing vehicles early Friday morning in the Tanyard Creek subdivision.
Authorities don’t yet know if the incidents are connected, police Chief Steve Rogers said Friday.
More arrests are expected from last weekend’s burglaries, he said.
Justin Canada, 19, and Noah Cagle, 18, are each charged with seven counts of vehicle burglary and one count of theft of a motor vehicle stemming from the spate of weekend burglaries.
Meanwhile, Damarvion Wimberly, 22, and Ofari Kwane Ture Berry, 25, are each charged with two counts of vehicle burglary from the Friday morning incident. Berry is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police served warrants on Canada and Cagle around 5:30 p.m. Thursday at their residence on East Florida Avenue.
At least 45 vehicles were hit between the evening of March 15 and early March 17, mostly in north Ruston. The burglars took cash, weapons, electronics, and other items. All the vehicles had been left unlocked, authorities said.
The Friday morning arrests came after police were called to Tanyard Creek around 4:36 a.m. regarding a vehicle burglary in progress. Officers located two suspects and recovered a firearm in one of the suspect’s vehicles.
“Our investigators did a great job on the warrant and our patrol did a great job in the arrests,” Rogers said.
Police continue to urge residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables.
