Rae Ambrose Hammons
Rae Ambrose Hammons, age 80, of Choudrant, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, after a short illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at First Baptist Church Choudrant with Rev. Gil Arthur officiating.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Rae was known for her love of cooking, family and friends, and Jesus. She was also known for her big smile and ability to make people feel so welcome and loved. Mrs. Rae was notorious for her cooking and enjoyed gifting friends and family with her famous Chicken Pot Pie and Fried Apple Pies. If you knew Mrs. Rae, you probably had a chance to experience her cooking, her stories, and her smile.
Rae loved her church, First Baptist Church Choudrant, and her community. She always made it a point to encourage those around her. Rae loved to sing in the choir, help with the children’s program AWANAs, and help with VBS. She looked forward to making cookies for the children.
It was such a blessing to know that she was called home on Easter Sunday, where she has the promise of a new body and a new everlasting life! To know that she saw Jesus on Easter is a comfort for the family!
Mrs. Rae was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ralph Ashley Ambrose, Sr. and Lois Ambrose; two sisters, Opal Green and Mary Beth Cahill; and two brothers, Ralph Ashley Ambrose, Jr. and Bobby Ambrose.
Mrs. Rae is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Mr. Charles David Hammons of Choudrant; her children, Mariam Hammons Stone and husband Mike, Marie Hammons Doughty and husband Robert, Beverly Hammons Posey and husband Jeff and son Charles David Hammons, Jr.; five grandchildren, Melanie Stone Binns and husband Zach, Matthew Stone and wife Tara, Courtney Hammons Butts and husband Paul, Jackson Heath Posey and wife Amber and Emily Kate Posey; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice Ambrose Bruce and many extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Hammons Jr., Mike Stone, Robert Doughty, Jeff Posey, Zach Binns, Paul Butts, Heath Posey, and Todd Crouse (Kate Posey’s fiancé). Honorary pallbearer is Matthew Stone.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p. m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the church and Friday from noon until time of service.
