Lady Techsters add Ashley to coaching staff
Louisiana Tech women’s basketball head coach Brooke Stoehr has announced the hiring of Josh Ashley as assistant coach.
“I am excited about the addition of Josh to our staff,” Stoehr said. “Josh has worked his way up through the ranks and proven himself through his player development, scouting and recruiting. I have followed his career and watched his work ethic and growth from afar. He will bring great energy and positivity to our group as well as an ability to relate to players, coaches, recruits, and fans. We are proud to welcome Josh, Tish, Josiah, Kaleb, Nathan and Nicholas to the Louisiana Tech family.”
Ashley brings more than 12 years of coaching experience to the Lady Techsters’ staff, including the last seven years as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at North Alabama, before being named the interim head coach at the end of the 2024 season.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work for the Lady Techsters basketball program,” Ashley said. “Louisiana Tech is a well-recognized program and has a rich tradition of success. The community support and hometown feel are a perfect fit for my family.”
At UNA, Ashley helped the Lions transition into Division I, where they recorded back-toback 21-9 seasons during their first two reclassifying seasons.
While at WTAMU, Ashley helped with recruiting and scouting reports as the Lady Buffs won a conference championship in the 2015-16 season before winning the NCAA South Central Region title last year.
Ashley was named assistant woman’s basketball coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College in August 2012 and helped lead the Lady Mountaineers to a 21-12 record in the 2014-15 campaign.
Between his final two seasons at Eastern Oklahoma and first three seasons at North Alabama, Ashley’s teams had eight consecutive 20-win seasons, three at Eastern Oklahoma, two at West Texas A&M, and three at North Alabama.
From 2010-12, he spent two seasons as the men’s basketball graduate assistant at Angelo State, where he helped with on-the-floor recruiting and administrative duties. He also assisted the men’s basketball strength and conditioning program. In August 2012, he earned his master’s degree in coaching, sports recreation, and fitness administration.
Ashley graduated from Tarleton State with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports studies in December 2008. While at TSU, he interned with the strength and conditioning program and worked with track and field, basketball, baseball, and football.
He is a native of Kilgore, Texas, where he starred in both football and basketball at Kilgore High School. He and his wife, Tish, have four children: Josiah, Kaleb, Nathan, and Nicholas.
