Billy Wayne Henderson

Billy Wayne Henderson, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 93.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Doris; two daughters, Nancy Hubbard and Suzy Henderson; a son and daughter- in- law, Kenny and Bridget Henderson; seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.

He was born in Lillie, Louisiana, on September 27, 1931, to William Abraham and Willie Edna Henderson. He is preceded in death by three siblings, Flo Barrett, Grady Henderson, and Risinger Henderson.

Billy Henderson will be best remembered for his coaching, teaching, and educational administration career. He affected the lives of many young men and women who played for him.

He was a strict disciplinarian who not only stressed the fundamentals of the sport but was instrumental in developing good character and citizenship in the young men and women who played for him.

He last coached the Ruston Contractor American Legion Baseball team in 1973 and over 50 of his former players attended his 90th birthday celebration in 2021. This is a testament to the long- term influence he has had on those who played for him.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston.

A burial will follow in Mt. Union Cemetery in Spearsville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes in Ruston. There will be a visitation at Kilpatrick’s beginning at 9 a. m. until service time. His family will be present to welcome loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Cecil Barham, Stanley Crawford, Robert Mitcham, Randy Rogers, George Stone, and Mike Stone.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Coach Henderson’s former players.
