Jordan Holmes from Trinity Methodist Church and Bob Diech, a retired pastor who lives in Ruston, were boots on the ground in Valdosta, Georgia, serving as part of the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Disaster Relief effort. Originally founded in 1940 in response to displaced and vulnerable populations in the wake of World War II, UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters — famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events — to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable. Holmes was part of Diech’s Early Response Team that provided chainsaw support following Hurricane Helene. The team has now redeployed to the same area to assist with the recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
