Cedar Creek basketball continues to roll early in the 2024-25 season, with the Cougars (30) and Lady Cougars (4-1) off to their best starts since the 2021-22 season after both squads picked up road wins at Beekman Charter on Monday.

The boys won 49-40 after a long Thanksgiving break, with Cannon Robbins leading the way with 20 points, while Jake Terry added 15 points. Creek outscored Beekman 17- 13 in the first quarter and maintained a four-point lead at halftime up 29-25. A strong second half, outscoring Beekman 20-15, did just enough to win as Terry scored 8 points in the second half, including 6 points in the fourth.

“It was a stunner on the road,” Creek head coach Lance Waldron said of the win. “Beekman is a good team and a tough place to play. Proud of the entire team for their fight.”

The Cougars return to action at the Quitman High School Invitational Tournament, with matchups against Haughton on Thursday and Jonesboro-Hodge on Friday.

GIRLS Cedar Creek ……......….. 55 Beekman Charter ……... 10 The Lady Cougars didn’t have much of a challenge on Monday in a dominant win over the Lady Tigers, outscoring Beekman 30-0 by the end of the first quarter.

“Great game for us to get back in the groove after Thanksgiving break,” Lady Cougars head coach Katie Hall said. “We pushed the ball in transition and were able to get better on both ends of the floor.”

Beekman Charter was scoreless in the first and fourth quarter and only put up 10 combined points between the second and third periods, while Creek’s Avery Ryan had 10 points alone in the first quarter and 14 overall.

Creek led 41-2 at halftime and never looked back, as multiple scorers made an impact.

Mallory Smith had 5 points in the first quarter, including a three pointer, before finishing with 7 overall points. Alivia Lee had 9 points in the first quarter with a three as well to wrap up her scoring. Taylor Martinez and Mary Grace Hawkins combined for 19 points in the win as well.

The Lady Cougars will also play in the Quitman High School Invitational Tournament later this week in games against Northwood on Thursday and Haughton High on Friday.
