Sad to see end of Space Shuttle era


I realize it’s a sign of today’s tough times, but it’s still hard for me to believe that NASA’s Atlantis is on its final voyage before the Space Shuttle program is shuttered after 30 years of service.

A science fair project I did in eighth grade was on the then-planned Space Shuttle program — the first launch didn’t happen until I was close to graduating and moving on to college. But I still remember watching the Columbia soar to the heavens that day, signaling another win for America in the “Space Race.”
