That annoying beeping, sounding much like a giant utility truck in reverse gear, echoed through the air of northwest Ruston Wednesday night.

Thank goodness there was barely a cloud in the sky.

The City of Ruston tested (it was supposed to be a silent test) its tornado alert system as the series of beeps showed the city residents are now capable of getting advanced warning in the case of a tornado or any other emergency we might face.

And in light of the events earlier this week in Moore, Okla., that’s definitely relieving.
