Monika A. Richardson and Joshua W. Stewart were united in marriage at 5 p.m. Saturday in an outdoor ceremony at the Ruston Country Club.

The outdoor ceremony was officiated by Brandon Ramsey. Music was provided by Jeff Simmons, of Shreveport.

The bride is the daughter of Steve and Monica Richardson, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Elba Leidka, of Jacksonville, Fla., the late Vincent Leidka, Dottye Houck, of Ruston, and the late Bobbie Houck.

The groom is the son of Carol Wimberly Stewart, of Ruston, and Jonathan M. Stewart, of Gibsland. He is the grandson of the late J. Hugh, the late Elaine Ripp Wimberly, the late Johnny Matt and the late Clara Stewart.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.

The bride wore a silk organza, strapless gown with a modified sweetheart neckline that was adorned with Swarovski crystals and French Alencon lace. An asymmetrical pattern of pleats and French Alencon lace accented the gown’s dropped waistline. The skirt displayed an artful array of three-dimensional Alencon lace appliqués all around with Swarovski crystals and beading, giving the gown its distinct look. The skirt leads to a semi-cathedral train in the back. The bride wore heirloom antique diamond earrings that have been worn by every bride in the family.

An ivory veil adorned the ensemble with a one-tier veil, elbow length with Swarovski crystals edging. Monika carried a cascade hand-tied bouquet of purple and cream roses hand-wrapped with lace from her mother’s wedding gown.

Serving Monika as maid of honor was Amanda Simmons, of Ruston. Serving as bridesmaids were cousin of the bride Sophia Canino, of Charleston, S.C., Abbey Simmons, of Ruston, and Aubrey Simmons, of Ruston. The flower girl was Isabella Bergeron, of Tickfaw, niece of the groom.

The bridesmaids wore floor-length purple dresses of their choice. Each carried bouquets of baby’s breath wrapped with a cream satin ribbon.

Serving the groom as best man was brother of the groom Jonathan Stewart II, of Ruston. Groomsmen were Chad Caldwell, of Minden, Jake Rugg and Jared Rugg, both of Downsville. Serving as usher was brother of the bride Stephen Richardson.

During the ceremony Monika Richardson and Joshua Stewart chose to incorporate Mexican wedding traditions and new wedding traditions. They used the Lazo, a rope of flowers used by the bride’s parents, which was placed around the couple to symbolize unity. They exchanged Arras, 13 gold coins, which were also used by the brides parents, symbolizing the groom’s promise to take care of this bride and their household. The couple also performed a sand ceremony symbolizing two becoming one.

A reception followed the outdoor wedding at the Ruston Country Club and was catered by L&L Catering, of Jonesboro. Music was provided by Jeff Simmons, of Shreveport.
The parents of the groom, Carol W. Stewart and Jonathan M. Stewart entertained at a rehearsal dinner honoring the bride and groom and their families at Creekwood Gardens, in Simsboro.

The couple was honored with a few showers prior to their wedding.

A miscellaneous shower was held Sept. 7 at the home of Linda Dwyer. The shower was hosted by Debbie Waltz, Judy Hild, Maxine Coleman and Linda Dwyer.

A miscellaneous shower was held Sept. 21 at the home of Cherrie Mays. The shower was hosted by Amanda Simmons and Cherrie Mays.
