Submitted photo- Hannah Cooper Lee is pictured crossing the finish line with her time of 4 hours, 21 minutes in the New York City Marathon held Nov. 2.

It’s not every day that two Ruston residents have the opportunity to compete in the New York City Marathon.

Despite a low of 38 degrees and a high of 48, more than 50,000 people came together on Nov. 2 from around the world to run through the five boroughs of New York City.

There are several avenues that allow a person to compete in the race — lottery, qualifying time or a large charity donation.

Hannah Cooper Lee was able to run through by being chosen through the lottery system in 2013, but she had to defer due to a broken foot mid-training.
