Sarah Elaine Hixon, of Ruston, and Garrett Alan Pender, of Oakdale, joined in holy matrimony in a 6 p.m. ceremony June 27 at Calvary Baptist Church. Will Black officiated the wedding.

The bride is the daughter of Chuck and Lisa Hixon, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Charles and Chloa Smith, of Vidalia, and Charlie and Annie Ruth Hixon, of Rayville.

The groom is the son of Mark and Pam Pender, of Oakdale. He is the grandson of the late Jack and Doris Pender and the late Harry and Margaret Helen Chambley.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a couture design by Maggie Sottero created in ivory Persian tulle. The strapless sweetheart bodice was fully encrusted in Swarovski crystals. The layered ballet ball gown tulle skirt floated into a chapel train. The bride wore a pearl-embellished birdcage veil and carried a bouquet of pale pink peonies wrapped in ivory satin.

Serving the bride as maid of honor was Taylor Foss, of Shreveport. Bridesmaids were Lanya Fussell, of Ruston; Katie Miller, of Rayville; Olivia Parsons, of Baton Rouge; Amber Reese, of Waco, Texas; and Shelby Strother, of Oakdale. Reese Pyles, of Ruston, served as the flower girl.

The bridesmaids wore a full-length sleeveless chiffon dress with draped bodice and sheer yoke detail. They carried pale pink and ivory garden roses.

Travis Pender, of Oakdale, served the groom as best man. Groomsmen were Logan Morrison, of Leesville; Luke Wharton, of Oakdale; Jay King, of Ruston; Adam Woods, of Leesville; and Cory Zimmerman, of Leesville. Max Pyles, of Ruston, served as the ring bearer.

Ushers were Mason Hixon, of Ruston, and Cody Hixon, of Rayville.

Music was provided by Daphne Taylor on piano.

Following the wedding, a reception was held at Ruston Country Club. Serving at the reception were Linda Peevy Catering. Annette Murphy baked the bride and groom’s cakes.
Prior to the ceremony, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Dawghouse Sports Grill.

Before the wedding, several celebrations were held to honor the couple.

A kitchen shower was held at the home of Shannon Puljak in Ruston. Hostesses were Shannon Puljak, LeAnn Patterson, Sally Grigsby, Jennifer Morgan, Stacy Cole, Gail Van, Terri Phillips, Meredith Whitaker, Betty Sheeler and Kathy Sheely.

A miscellaneous shower was held at the Café on 10th in Oakdale. It was hosted by Stacy Weldon, Tina Hatsfelt, Wendy McGee, Becky Monk and Kim Ware.

A monogram shower was held at the home of Katie Miller in Ruston. Hostesses were Katie Miller and Olivia Parsons.

A gift card shower was held at Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston. It was hosted by Daphne and Kirk Taylor and Kathy and Ricky Nelson.

A lingerie shower was held at the home of Olivia Parsons in Ruston. Hostesses were Taylor Foss, Olivia Parsons, Katie Miller, Lanya Fussell and Shelby Strother.

A luncheon was hosted by Suzanne Reid and held at her home in Ruston.

After a honeymoon to Disney World, the couple will make their home in Richardson, Texas.
