Leader photo by NANCY BERGERON • Lead Photo: Marcia McNeil, widow, of Jerry McNeil, sits in front of a wall filled with some of his favorite photographs. McNeil’s memorabilia includes a box of negatives and several albums filled with his work. • Top Small Photo: President John F. Kennedy, Vice President Lyndon Johnson and former Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Harry Truman at the funeral of former U.S. House Speaker Sam Rayburn. • Bottom Photo: Former Louisiana Gov. Earl Long tries to hide from press.

The faceless voice pauses ever so slightly. And then, “it’s been a lot of fun.”
