Welch, Hill wed at Douglas UMC

Melissa Brooke Welch and Michael Wayne Hill II, both of Choudrant, exchanged wedding vows at 6 p.m. September 12, 2015 at Douglas United Methodist Church in Ruston.

The bride is the daughter of Rusty and Stephanie Welch, of Choudrant. She is the granddaughter of Roger and Judy Harris, of Choudrant, the late Doris and Charles Welch, of West Monroe, the late William C. Harris, of Farmerville, and the late James and Freddie Land, of Choudrant. She is the great granddaughter of Pearl Harris, of Farmerville.

The groom is the son of Mike Hill, of West Monroe, and Virginia Otwell Skipper, of Gibsland. He is the grandson of Patricia Spillers, of Gibsland, Margie Hill, of Swartz, James Otwell and Eloise Carver, of Ruston, the late Willie Hill, of Swartz, and the late Clifford Spillers, of Ruston.

The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Jeremy Jones.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose an Essence of Australia modified A-line wedding gown featuring lace over lavish satin, a scalloped lace sweetheart neckline and hem, with fabric buttons down the back that carried through down the train. She carried a hand tied bouquet of loose and airy natural flowers bound with satin and pinned with her late great grandmother’s brooch.

Serving as maid of honor was Jessica Nugent, of West Monroe. Bridesmaids were Danielle Parks, of Nashville, Tennessee, Lori Manning, of Ruston, and Mary Alford, of Baton Rouge.
Serving as best man was Jacob Morgan, of Sterlington. Groomsmen were Tommy Lewis, of Choudrant, Casey Quarles, of Choudrant, and Will Pierce, of Ruston.

Ring bearer for the wedding was Cam Nugent, of West Monroe.

Other participants were Hayden Bender and Jordan Bender, both of Kingwood, Texas, as candle lighters and greeters.

Music was provided by Dianne Lord.

Following the wedding a reception was held at the Historic Fire Station in Downtown Ruston. Reception music was provided by The Caravan Band, of Shreveport.

A rehearsal dinner was held Sept. 11 at Cotton in Monroe, and was hosted by the groom’s father.

The couple plan to make their home in Choudrant.

Prior to their wedding date Melissa and Michael were honored with showers by family and friends.

On July 30 a miscellaneous shower was held at Genesis. The shower was hosted by Pamela Stewart, Stephanie Smith, Karen James and Margie Grigsby.

The ladies of Douglas UMC hosted a brunch for the couple at the church on Aug. 1.

On Aug. 22 another brunch was held at the Emory Community House in Choudrant. The brunch was hosted by Joyce Kay Smith, Mary Jones, Dana Land, Wendy Rowton, Angie Smith, Katie Nicholson, Kristi Theodos, Jody Jones, Nikki Barmore and Jamie Land.

A Fajitas and Margaritas couple’s shower was held Aug. 29 at The Shed. The shower was hosted by Lee Jay and Sharon Haddox, Lance Leihr and Robin Thomas, Tommy and Stephanie Sisemore, Keith and Susan Odom, Jeff and Leisha Smith and Vikki McDonald.
On Sept. 5 a Lingerie Shower was hosted in Orange Beach by Jessica Nugent.
