Here we are on the first Monday of 2016, and Mother Nature is continuing the quirky behavior she showed in 2015 into the new year.

This time she’s dancing with Old Man River.

I know it isn’t a big problem here in the piney hills of Lincoln Parish, but all around us, river levels are rising much earlier than the usual March-May time period where we see potential flooding from the Mississippi, Ouachita and Red rivers.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Thursday declared six more counties disaster areas because of flooding and storm damage, bringing the total to 38.
