The Lincoln Parish Sales and Use Tax Commission is asking area legislators to oppose any attempts to change the way local sales taxes are collected.

The commission on Thursday voted to send a letter to lawmakers stating its objection to a business group’s suggestion that the state collect both state and local sales taxes then return what’s due to local government.

Unified tax collection is among the fiscal reform ideas being pitched by the Committee of 100, a nonprofit business roundtable made up of business executives and university presidents.
