For the Lincoln Parish, this weekend presents a great opportunity to listen to local music while donating to a good cause.

The 17th annual John Simoneaux Memorial Jam, a music event to benefit Louisiana Tech University’s Band of Pride, will take place Friday and Saturday nights.

Johnny Jam will cost $10 admission and will be held at Ponchatoulas and Sundown Tavern.

Event organizer Phillip Gilreath said proceeds from Johnny Jam will go to instrument repairs, recruitment, travel expenses and scholarships for the band.

“When you think of Tech, you think of their band,” he said. “Tech represents Ruston and many people associate Ruston with Tech. So it will be a good time for everyone and the proceeds will go toward a good cause.”

The Pre-Jam Johnny Jam, the annual kick-off before the main event, will take place at 9 p.m. Friday. Phillip Gilreath said the kick-off hosts local bands “jamming” out with each other.

Johnny Jam’s main event day will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday with many other bands playing on the patio of Sundown and the concert stages at Sundown and Ponchatoulas.

Gilreath said admission also includes access to a buffet.

During the event, Gilreath said he will raffle off a 60th anniversary Fender Stat guitar. Raffle tickets will cost $5 per ticket.

In addition to the raffle, Gilreath said there will also be a silent auction filled with various things for musicians and fans, T-shirts for will be available for $15 and long sleeve shirts for $20.

“People really look forward to Johnny Jam every year and this year will be no different,” he said. “It’s an event people have grown to love and I love being able to put it on.”

This annual event hosts many local talents and offers to be a good time for everyone.

With the proceeds going to Tech’s band, and many local favorites taking the main stage, this is an opportunity to enjoy great music for a great cause.

For those looking for something different to do in Lincoln Parish, this is the show for them.
