Earlier this year, President Barack Obama traveled to Cuba to restore diplomatic relations and bring back opportunities for both the United States and the Communist-ruled island.

The historical trip made Obama the first sitting U.S. president to visit the nation since Calvin Coolidge in 1928.

“My lifetime has spanned a time of isolation between us,” Obama said while in Cuba.

“I have come here to bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas.”

The controversial trip caught the eye of detractors, but some kept an open mind.
