Grambling Mayor Ed Jones has been elected president of the World Conference of Mayors.

Jones was selected during the group’s recent meeting in Washington, D.C.

The nonprofit, nonpolitical international organization is composed of more than 200 mayors and other elected officials from cities across the nation and throughout the world.

Jones succeeds James Hall Jr., former mayor of District Heights, Maryland, who died in office.

“I’m happy to have this opportunity to serve as president,” said Jones, who served as the organization’s vice president prior to becoming its president.

Jones said he can bring unity nationally and internationally in order to enhance economic development in the United States and abroad.

“As president, I plan to launch a more aggressive plan to help the WCM achieve its fundamental purpose of facilitating trust, trade, tourism, technology, treasury, training and twin cities program and services to mayors and other elected officials from around the world,” he said.

Jones said his seat will benefit Lincoln Parish in many ways including trade and tourism.

Jones said he will push for international and national industries to work with the Lincoln Parish community as well as attract potential tourists.

“Anything I can do to bring revenue into Lincoln Parish as a whole, that’s what I’ll do,” he said.
