The residents of Simsboro voted down a proposed 1.25 percent sales tax.

With 305 citizens voting on the tax, it lost 58 percent to 42 percent.

There were 128 votes for and 177 against the sales tax.

The tax would have collected $2,400 in its first year, and those funds would have been placed in the village’s general fund.

Sybil Smalling-Foster, mayor of Simsboro, said she was disappointed in the results.

“I’m disappointed that it didn’t pass,” she said.

However, she said she was thankful that people went out and voted.
