Jarrett was born in Rhome, Texas, on October 6, 1931. He received his BBA from the University of Texas, and was commissioned into the U.S. Army, where he served with distinction as a platoon leader in Korea. After completion of his military service, he returned to UT and married fellow grad school student Sarah Ruth Warren in November of 1955. He completed his MBA at UT, and his doctorate at the University of Alabama.
Dr. Hudnall was a dedicated professor who taught at UT Arlington, the University of Alabama and Louisiana Tech University, before retiring as the Head of the College of Business. After retiring, he worked in the oilfield supply industry, then returned to teaching at Steven F. Austin University before becoming Dean of Business at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. He twice served as a visiting professor at Huron University in London, England.
Dr. Hudnall was a life-long learner who relished travel, good food and wine. An avid reader and an accomplished cook, he enjoyed preparing meals for company and incorporating dishes he discovered on his travels. On one especially memorable trip he retraced his father’s journey through France in World War I, using post cards his father had written home. He was a resilient explorer, whether traveling solo or with family and friends.
Jarrett enjoyed spending time with Kiwanis colleagues and regaling his family with the details of the annual pancake breakfast.
Jarrett was preceded in death by his parents, Jarrett Hudnall, Sr., and Katherine Wilson Hudnall, and his wife of 52 years, Sarah Ruth Hudnall.
Jarrett is survived by his sister Margaret Hudnall, his children, Jarrett Joseph Hudnall (Amy), William Warren Hudnall, Katherine Hudnall Reese, Thomas Wilson Hudnall (Julie), grandchildren Christopher, Katie, Jeb, Sarah and Gavin, great-grandson Julian and his dear companion Fern Westbrook.
