Cornelia H. Belton
Cornelia H. Belton, 92, was residing at Frankie Lane Assisted Living in Lewisville, TX, when she passed into the arms of the Lord on Sept. 13, 2019.
She was born in Ruston, LA, on Nov. 18, 1926, and was known by family and friends as “Tootsie,” a nickname given by her father when she was a few days old.
For more than 80 years she resided in Ruston where she raised her daughter, worked as a Deputy Clerk in the Lincoln Parish Clerk of Courts Office, and belonged to Temple Baptist Church. She had a knack for remembering personal details about Rustonians and loved to share them with family and friends.
After retirement, she involved herself in the Pink Lady Auxiliary at Lincoln General Hospital, the Young at Heart ministry at Temple Baptist, various crafts, and visiting with her two great nephews, Daniel and Cody Hanna, as well as other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Van W. Belton; father Lee Mark Hanna; mother Mary Eulalia Lamkin Hanna; and brother Lee Mark Hanna, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Linda Simpkins and husband Jim; grandson J. B. Simpkins; brother Jimmie Hanna; several nephews and nieces; and beloved friend Alice Hubbard, whom she dubbed “her second daughter.”
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, in Simsboro, LA, at the Simsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church or the Methodist Children’s Home, Ruston, Louisiana.
