Patient allegedly steals, wrecks fire department ambulance

A patient helped by a Ruston Fire Department ambulance crew Sunday afternoon is now charged with stealing the ambulance that transported him to the hospital and wrecking the medic unit on Interstate 20.

Louisiana State Police arrested Stevie Jerome Palmer, 39, of Palm Dale, California, around 8 p.m. Sunday on charges of careless operation, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, no driver’s license and resisting arrest.

“This is the first time in Ruston that an ambulance has been stolen,” RFD Public Education Officer Eric Brazzel said Monday.
