Mary Jeanette Holder
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jeanette Holder, age 92, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, with Father L. Jost officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hamilton Cemetery, Dubach, LA under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Mary Jeanette was born March 9, 1927, in Portland, OR, to John and Rose McGinley. She grew up in Portland and Multnomah Falls, OR, before she met and married her husband of 65 years Howard Leon Holder.
Mary Jeanette “Jeanette” and Howard settled in El Paso, TX, in the mid-1950s where they raised seven children. Mary Jeanette and John spent more than 35 years in El Paso before relocating to Portland, OR, in 1993.
She was a devoted and loving mother. Jeannette was very proud of her family and was excited to become a grandmother to her eighteen grandchildren. She loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. Jeanette would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company. She was known for having a great sense of humor, intelligence and the ability to converse with anyone.
Jeanette loved to do the Sunday crossword, traveling, playing bridge and was a voracious reader. Jeanette studied English Literature at the University of Texas and was a Dean’s List student.
In her later years, she resided in Paris, France for periods of time, spending time traveling between North Carolina, Portland, OR and Paris. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Jeanette is survived by her husband Howard Leon Holder of Dubach, LA; children; Curtis and Debbie Burnham of Bixby, OK, Larry Burnham of Vancouver, WA, Howard Leon Holder, Jr. and Kathy of Vancouver, WA, Steve Holder of Medellin, Colombia, Mark and Deanna Holder of Greenbrier, AR, Greg Holder of Vancouver, WA and MaryAnn Holder-Browne and Ewan of Dallas, TX. She was devoted to and beloved by her eighteen grandchildren: Tracey Burnham, Joe Burnham, Josh Burnham, David Burnham, Simeon Burnham, Mariya Burnham, Michael Burnham, Luka Burnham, Faith Holder Gallegos, Evan Holder, Alexandra Holder, Mitchell Holder, Lee Holder, Aidan Browne, Estelle Browne and Julian Browne;greatgrandchildren: Ava Gallegos and Audrey Gallegos.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Holder, Mark Holder, Greg Holder and Curtis Holder.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Owens Memorial Chapel.
