Toney William Baskin
Col. Toney William Baskin (Ret) was born in Amarillo, TX, on February 5, 1944. His mother was Willa Dean Salyer Gochnauer, widow of Army Veteran 2nd LT Toney W. Gochnauer who died during a mission on Jan. 25, 1944, while serving in World War II.
When Toney was a toddler, Willa Dean met and married pilot USAF Pilot Major William Sanders Baskin who adopted Toney.
The family later moved to Ruston and founded Ruston Glass and Mirror Company. Toney graduated from Ruston High School, attended Louisiana Tech University, and LSU Medical School New Orleans. He was in private practice before joining the US Army. Dr. Baskin was a trauma surgeon attached to 82nd Airborne Medical Unit and later stationed at Brook Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX, as a trauma surgeon, critical care and burn specialist.
He retired from Brook Army Medical center with 30 plus years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willa Dean and William Sanders Baskin. Immediate family survivors include his wife Melody and their son, Lucas Michael Baskin, and stepson Ralph E. Campbell. He leaves behind sons Michael Wade Baskin, William Dean Baskin, and daughter Shane Baskin from his first marriage. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Berry of Dallas and Karen Baskin VanDyke of Azle, TX. Grandchildren are Anna Baskin Forster, William Austin Baskin, Bethany Claire Baskin, and Shiloh and Jackson Baskin. Additional survivors include his aunt, Sara Ann Napper, and cousins Suzan and Wallace Martin, Katherine and James Freeman, and Laura and Greg Champion
A private memorial service was conducted in San Antonio Texas with full military honors.
