Simsboro election shows process flaw

Unfortunate, to say the least.

Those are our feelings about what happened in the Simsboro Village Board of Aldermen race where Gwendolyn Houston, who had filed to qualify in July and ran as one of five candidates in that election, found out she was ineligible to vote in the precinct in which she was running.

The problem came when Houston learned on Election Day that she actually lives outside village limits — by only a matter of feet.

In the election, Houston, a Democrat, came in last in the five-person race with 55 votes, or just over 10 percent of the 537 votes cast.
