2019: It’s going to be a taxing year

Did you feel it? It wasn’t a big sting, like that of an angry yellow jacket. Fact is, it may have been barely a pinprick, depending on how hungry you were.

Nevertheless, if you ate your New Year’s Day meal at a restaurant or food truck inside the Ruston city limits, you felt it.

Because Jan. 1 was the day Ruston’s new 1.75 percent tax on local restaurant sales and hotel stays kicked in. It’s been an entire month since much has been said openly about the tax. Maybe the holidays got in the way.
