Funeral services for JoAnn McCorkle Brister will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Rev. Tim Johnson and Bro. David Harrell will officiate. Interment will follow at Longstraw Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, January 8 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston.
JoAnn was born on June 4, 1937 in Minden and passed away on January 6, 2019 at 81 years of age. She was a graduate of Choudrant High School. She married W. E. “Pete” Brister on June 9, 1956. JoAnn was a longtime active member of Choudrant First Baptist Church where she served on the benevolence committee. She loved to play cards and dominoes. For over 25 years, “Mama Jo” kept children at her home where she touched many lives in such a positive way. She loved to cook and especially perfected homemade teacakes, peanut brittle, and peanut butter balls. Many Saturdays were spent “garage selling”. “Mamaw Jo” loved her family, but nothing was more important to her than her grandchildren. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Terry W. Brister and wife Mary Jo, Kenneth E. Brister and wife Mary, and Michael S. Brister and wife Brenda; brother, Johnny McCorkle and wife Annette; grandchildren: Cristi Williams and husband Chris, Kelly Prince and husband Chris, Holley Rogers and husband Juddy, Josh Brister and fiancé Bekah, Ashley Brister, Leslie Brister, and Lane Brister; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Pallbearers honoring JoAnn are Johnny McCorkle, Lane Brister, Josh Brister, Randy Funes, Philip Johnson, Mike Griffin, Chris Williams, Chris Prince, and Juddy Rogers.
