Doris Bointy Barham April 26, 1930 - July 20, 2020 Funeral services for Doris Bointy Barham, 90, of Dubach, Louisiana, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at New Prospect Baptist Church, near Dubach with Bro. Marvin Winham officiating, assisted by Bro. Bobby Franklin and Bro. Larry Bullock.
Burial followed at Colvin Memorial Cemetery in Unionville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church.
Doris Bointy Barham was born April 26, 1930, in Washita community near Anadarko, Oklahoma. She passed away at sunrise on Monday, July 20, 2020, at her home in Unionville community near Dubach after a lengthy illness. Doris Barham was a homemaker and seamstress and was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma.
She was raised by her grandmother, Anna Konad, and spoke only her native Kiowa language in the home growing up. Doris learned craftwork and the art of beadworking from her Aunt Alice Littleman and grandmother, Anna Konad, who taught five Indian tribes in Oklahoma.
Doris attended Riverside Indian School and later married Mr. Doyle Barham Jr. in 1952 when he was stationed at Ft. Sill Army Base in Lawton, Oklahoma. They moved to Louisiana in 1953 where they raised their family and enjoyed family gatherings, reunions and fish fries at their camps on Corny Creek and the Ouachita River.
Doris was active in her church and community. She loved to do beadwork, attend tribal gatherings and powwows and sing Kiowa church hymns. She still spoke her Kiowa language with hopes that her family would carry on the native language, heritage and traditions. Doris was well known for sharing her culture and heritage since 1965 by visiting with elementary schools, Boy and Girl Scouts and other community groups. She loved to travel to different places making new friends and always pleased to see old friends. Doris was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and loved the Lord and her church family.
Over the years she impacted many young children as a Sunday School teacher and GA Teacher. She loved mission work and was especially devoted to Native American missions and Redstone Baptist Mission in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Barham, Jr. and infant daughter, Alice Faye Barham; parents, Joe Bointy and Mary Hummingbird; brothers, Garfield Littlechief and Bobby Hill. Doris Bointy Barham is survived by one daughter, Barbara Crawford and husband (Davey Crawford); and one son, Billy G. Barham and wife (Sheila Barham) all of Dubach, LA; three grandchildren, Lori Barham Gaskin and Nicky Barham of Dubach, LA and Craig Crawford of Plaquemine, LA; 9 great-grandchildren, Caleb Gray, Addison Barham, Lanie Crawford, Jacob Gaskin, Cameron Barham, Jase Barham, Bennett Barham, Hartleigh Crawford, and Isaac Gaskin, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church in Dubach or Redstone Baptist Mission in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
