M. Yvonne Sayers

A graveside service for Mrs. M. Yvonne Sayers, age 83, of Ruston will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at Simsboro City Cemetery, Simsboro, LA, with her nephew Tim Peterson officiating. Services will be under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mildred Yvonne Peterson Sayers, was born Oct. 25, 1936, to Duster Paul and Vida Lee Peterson in Vienna, LA, and went home to be with the Lord Aug. 28, 2020, in Ruston, LA.

Yvonne loved her family and the Lord. She was saved and baptized at the age of 13 at Simsboro Baptist Church.

Yvonne went to nursing school in Big Springs, TX, and was proud to have been a nurse at the V.A. hospital in Missouri.

After returning to Louisiana, she was a faithful nurse to many elderly patients at Alpine Guest Care Center and others in the area before she retired to care for elderly in their homes. She was caring and dedicated to her patients for 45 years.

She loved the Lord and enjoyed attending Grace Bible Baptist Church, the church which her brother, Hilburn Peterson, started.

She enjoyed writing poetry and sharing it with anyone who was interested.

She was preceded in death by her parents Duster Paul and Vida Lee Peterson, brothers: Hilburn, Max and James Peterson and sister, Monnie D. Herring. She was the mother to Teri Shrell (husband Joey) of Ruston, LA, Tami Brown (husband Truett) of DeRidder, LA, and John Douglas Stewart ( wife Angel) of Arlington, TX.

She was the most wonderful Nana to Chad Winborne and wife Erin, Lori Winborne, Traci Winborne, Benjamin Brown, Laura Beth Brown, Nick Stewart and a great-Nana to Milliann Winborne.

She is survived by her sisters: Virginia Colvin of Many, LA, Jeanette Steakley of West Monroe, LA, Velma McMillan of Jonesboro, LA, Delene Howard of Simsboro, LA, and brother, Paul Peterson of Simsboro, LA. Yvonne was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Some of Yvonne’s favorite scriptures were: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6) and “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).

The family would like to give a special thanks to her doctor, Dr. Blackwelder, the caregivers and staff at Alpine Guest Care Center and Premier Hospice for their love and care.
