Panel to look at options for lessening Sparta use

The Union-Lincoln Regional Water Supply Initiative is rebooting.

After 16 years of looking at only one option for getting Ruston and Farmerville off the Sparta Aquifer and only one way to do it, the commission on Thursday gave itself new latitude.

Commissioners voted to create a working subcommittee to study options besides a $100 million project that would take water out of Lake D’Arbonne, treat it and then pipe the water to Farmerville and Ruston.
