June tournaments fall prey to weather; complex still on track for World Series

The excessive rain that’s fallen on Ruston over the last 13 months has claimed its first two victims: the June baseball and softball tournaments that were scheduled to be opening events at the city’s new sports complex.

Both events have been cancelled in light of rain issues that caused work at the $35 million-plus venue to fall behind.

City officials had initially hoped the complex would be finished by the end of 2018. That date is now the end of May, Mayor Ronny Walker said Tuesday.
