Andrew Herbert Johnson, Jr.
Dr. Andrew Herbert Johnson, Jr. was born on September 13, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois and went to his heavenly home on October 29, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Ellen Buell and Reverend Andrew H. Johnson, Sr.; siblings Ruth Sumlin Lee, Reverend Paul Johnson, Charles Johnson, and triplets Sarah, Martha, and Pauline Johnson.
Dr. Andy graduated from Simsboro High School and Louisiana Tech University before later pursuing his Master’s in Divinity and Doctorate of Psychology.
He faithfully served our Lord and his country as a chaplain and Commander in the US Navy, an aviator in the US Marine Corps, and a Southern Baptist pastor serving many churches including 24 years of service at First Baptist Church in Ruston. He was a director of psychology at the Ruston Developmental Center, and also served as a licensed professional counselor providing marriage and family counseling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara Colvin Johnson; his siblings Lois Deal and husband Ron, Roger Johnson and wife Carole, Phillip Johnson and wife Deborah, and Karen Johnston and husband Mike; his children Tom Johnson and wife Roberta, Susan Brandt and husband Jim, Sonja Cardwell and husband Philip, and Daniel Johnson and special niece Marty Smith; his grandchildren Sarah Hajek, Miah Broussard, Daniel Brandt, Andy Johnson, Marcus Brandt and Bethany Smith; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Ruston with Dr. Chris Craig and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1:30-3 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2020, and a graveside ceremony will follow in Simsboro with Rev. Roger Johnson officiating.
Pallbearers are Daniel Brandt, Andy Johnson, Marcus Brandt, Spencer Smith, Mark Johnson, and David Johnson.
The family would like to thank The Arbor and Terrace, Best Home Health, and Premier Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
