Ruston Junior High eighth grader Joshua Thorson became the fifth consecutive Lincoln Parish student to win the state “You Be The Chemist” challenge Saturday.

For the fifth year in a row, a Lincoln Parish student has taken first place at the state “You Be The Chemist Challenge” in Baton Rouge.

Ruston Junior High School eighth grader Joshua Thorson placed second at last year’s state contest, and this time he emerged as the top scorer Saturday and will represent Louisiana in Washington D.C. in June.

“You Be The Chemist” is a national, multilevel, interactive academic contest for students grades five through eight that explores applying chemistry concepts in real-world situations.
