June Buckner Young

June Buckner Young joined her Lord and beloved husband of 73 years in Heaven on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

June was born on May 10, 1926, in Ruston, LA, where she lived with her parents, John and Dorothy Buckner. A private graveside service was held and a memorial service will be held in the spring of 2021.

She graduated from Ruston High School and Louisiana Tech. She moved to Houston, Texas where she worked as a secretary before returning to Ruston to marry James M. Young on August 24, 1946.

The couple moved to New Orleans where James M. attended medical school at LSU.

In 1954 the Young’s joined the Southern Baptist International Mission Board as career missionaries, assigned to the Gaza Strip in the Middle East, where they remained for almost 10 years.

In 1964, the Young’s opened the first Southern Baptist hospital work in the country of Yemen, in a town called Jibla.

June was a tremendous asset to the hospital work, filling in as the store’s manager, pharmacist, book keeper, and secretary. June and James M. continued their medical ministry there with the Mission Board until retirement in 1987.

They returned to north Louisiana, living in West Monroe, Ruston, and Dubach. June has always been a member of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston.

June Young is survived by her four children, Bruce (Becky), Mark (Chloe), Kay Lueg (Gene), Jo Blevins (Carter), 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a brother John Buckner (Ruth Ann).

Special thanks are extended to her caregivers and the staff at Reeves Memorial Medical Center in Bernice.

Funeral arrangements have been made through Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

A memorial service is tentatively planned through Temple Baptist Church in the spring.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
