Margaret Pesnell Colvin

Friday, February 5, 2021

Margaret Pesnell Colvin, a beloved lifetime resident of Ruston, LA, was received into Heaven the evening of February 2 with family by her side.

She was born September 25, 1929, in West Monroe, LA.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Wilder Cemetery in Lincoln Parish where Margaret and her friends played as young children. The service is under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston and will be led by Rev. Dale Oden of Temple Baptist Church.

The family trusts that guests will respect COVID protocol — masks and distancing.

Although her presence will be terribly missed by those left behind, we celebrate that she is with Jesus Christ surrounded by those who preceded her in death: her husband — John R. Colvin, her mother and father James Fratus and Nellie Goodenough Pesnell, along with an infant sister and brother. Those of us who remain cherish the many happy memories. We are eternally grateful for the opportunity to have known and lived around such a matriarch.

She is survived by her daughter— Cathy (John) Austin, son Jim (Kay) Colvin; Grandsons Richard Christopher (Marley) Austin and Bryan A. Colvin; granddaughter Andrea (Roy) Fife and two great grandchildren.

Margaret was a special education teacher and supervisor having earned her Master’s Degree + 30 in Education from Louisiana Tech University at the age of 49.

She had a strong positive influence on many in the state of Louisiana and beyond. She and John also owned and operated The Antique House of Ruston. Over the years she was a member of Temple Baptist, Presbyterian of the Pines and Trinity United Methodist churches — all in Ruston.

Her family is grateful to North Louisiana Medical Center ER Dr. Sreenivasa Tadikonda and RNs Samantha Funderburk and Nicole Pepper, ICU Dr. Edward Mariano and RN Tim Reardan in addition to the Ruston Fire Department ambulance crew all who served Margaret well, professionally and with extreme compassion in her final hours.

Margaret was blessed by Ms. Willie M. Howard who was her caregiver and, more importantly, her friend. Margaret was a strong personality who worked hard and loved friends and family deeply without reservation.
