A celebration of life for Richard “Ricky” Maxwell Canady, 63, of Ruston, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Owens Memorial Chapel with Jason Walsworth officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Antioch Cemetery in Simsboro, under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Ricky was born on September 16, 1957, in Norfolk, Va., and passed away on July 10, 2021 following a long battle with COVID. Ricky lived a simple life, he never married or had children of his own, but he was the greatest uncle and fan to his nephews and nieces. He loved sports and always offered them words of praise and encouragement.

He was a graduate of Simsboro High School, Class of 1975. While in high school, he played on the 1973 state baseball championship team and the 1975 state basketball championship team.

He loved NASCAR, horseracing and all team sports, but his favorite teams were the Pittsburg Steelers, New Orleans Saints and the New York Yankees. Ricky served four years in the United

States Army while stationed at Fort Irwin, California. He was employed at Coburn’s of Ruston for 22 years and enjoyed his job where he worked in sales. Ricky was a compassionate son that loved his mom, Patsy Compton.

He checked on her daily and loved eating her peas and hot water cornbread. If she needed anything, he would make sure she got it.

He is survived by his mother, Patsy Dring Compton, of Ruston; father, Maxwell Owen Canady, of Arcadia; sisters, Cindy and husband Chuck East, of Monroe, and Patti and husband Lorman Smith, of Mansfield, Texas; brother, Scott Canady and wife Chanda, of Jonesboro; uncle, John Lee Dring, of Ruston; five nephews, Chris Weems, Skyler Canady, Zachary Smith, Sladen Canady, Saxton Canady; niece, Carly Smith; great nephew, Brintley Weems; two great nieces, Madison Weems and Sailor Canady; cousin, Jason Dring and many friends.

Ricky is preceded in death by his step-father, Walt Compton, and his grandparents, Pat and Lora Dring of Simsboro.
