Revised voter registration dates slated

Lincoln Parish residents not registered to vote and wishing to participate in what is now the Nov. 13 election have until Oct. 13 to sign up, according to updated information from the Lincoln Parish Registrar of Voters office.

Nov. 13 is the rescheduled date for what would have been the Oct. 9 election. A property tax renewal for the Lincoln Parish Library and four state constitutional amendments are on the local ballot.

Here’s a list of the new registration deadlines and new dates for early voting:

— Oct. 13 is the deadline to register in person at the Lincoln Parish Registrar of Voters office, located in the parish Courthouse, as well the deadline to register by mail and through the Office of Motor Vehicles office. Those registering in person must bring a photo ID and proof of addresss.

— Oct. 23 is the deadline to register through the state’s GeauxVote online registration system.

— Early voting is Oct. 30 through Nov. 6, excluding Sunday. Voting hours are 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the registrar of voters office. Voters must bring photo ID.

— Nov. 9 at 4:30 p.m. is the deadline to request an absentee ballot. Those ballots must be received by the registrar of voters by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 12.

Registrar of Voters Sharon Parnell told the Lincoln Parish Police Jury on Tuesday that her office had mailed out about 1,800 absentee ballots for the original Oct. 9 date. As of Tuesday, 426 had been returned.

Those ballots will be held unopened until the vote count begins for the rescheduled election.

State officials pushed the election to Nov. 13 because of the devastation in South Louisiana from Hurricane Ida.

Some parishes have legislative elections as well as the statewide vote on the constitutional amendments.
