Robert Royal Riser

Robert Royal Riser, age 83, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in Ruston. He was with his wife and daughters at the time of his passing after a lengthy illness.

Robert was born on September 29, 1938, in Ruston, to Robert Andrew and Adrian Green Riser. Robert graduated Ruston High School in 1956 and received his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Louisiana Tech University in 1960.

He worked many years with the milk testing division of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture in Monroe. Then he became a school bus driver for Lincoln Parish Schools and Louisiana Tech University. Many people in Ruston still remember Mr. Riser, the driver of bus No. 10. In later years he was a cashier at Lincoln General Hospital and retired from there in 2004 to come home and help Virginia care for his daughter, Kim.

He was a devoted husband to Virginia Grigsby Riser, whom he married in October 1971. Robert and Virginia just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party at Emmanuel Baptist Church — given by their daughter, Stacy.

He loved being outside with his cows and garden. He was a season ticket holder for Louisiana Tech football and basketball for over 30 years. Robert loved being at home on his 40-acre farm with his family, including his two daughters, Stacy and Kim.

Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Grigsby Riser; his two daughters, Stacy Riser Campbell (Christopher) and Kimberly Riser England (Matthew), both of Ruston; one sister, Frances Ann Riser Veech of Bryan, Texas; one brother-in-law, James H. Grigsby; grandchildren, Christopher Andrew Campbell, Chloe Adrian Campbell, Robert Adam Campbell, Reese Aidan Campbell, Conner Michael England, and Caskey Elizabeth England, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, sons-in-law, and nephew, Joseph Allen Veech, Jr. The Riser family would like to thank Premier Hospice for their care and concern during his last days and Reverend Paul Watts for his visits.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ruston with graveside services following at Greenwood Cemetery conducted by Reverend Paul Watts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
