Otis Brown
Mr. Otis W. Brown passed away on January 17, 2022. Otis was born on December 13, 1927, to Ellis M. and Ethel Louise King Brown of Pineville.
Graveside services for the family will be held Friday, January 21, 2022, at Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Otis was a well-respected railroad man having served Union Pacific Railroad as an Engineer before retiring. He then began the good life of hunting, fishing, creating intricate knives, and telling big fish stories.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Otis passionately loved his Lord, his family, and his many friends. Otis was known for his incredible wit that kept everyone laughing.
Otis was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria and later First Baptist Church of Ruston. Otis treasured his marriage to Elder Ruth Satcher Brown. It was a union that sustained the two for over 75 years. Reaching that momentous anniversary was one of Otis’ major goals in his later life.
The family rejoices knowing he is now in Heaven with his Lord. We know that upon his entry into Heaven, he once again stated his favorite saying, “I am just happy to be here.”
Otis was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Dorothy Thomas, Louise Ward, Helen Buchanan, and
Ellis “Peanut” Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Elder Ruth Satcher Brown; son, Otis Lynn Brown and Karen; daughter, Tammie Brown Oakes and husband Jim; five grandsons, Derek Brown and wife Elizabeth, Christopher Brown and wife Stratton, John Oakes, Ty Oakes and wife Katelyn, and Matt Oakes.
Otis’ surviving siblings are Carroll Brown and wife Carolyn, Alberta Deshotelle and husband Kenneth, and John Robert Brown. Otis is also survived by four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Ruston.
The family would like to extend their heart felt gratitude to his “therapy girlfriends” at Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the Nursing and Direct Care staff at both the Terrace of the Arbor and Premier Hospice, and caregiver Wanda Simpson.
