Milton Truett Odom
Funeral services for Milton Truett Odom were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Arcadia, with Rev. Jeff Hoffman officiating.
Interment followed with a Military Honor Guard at the Simsboro City Cemetery, Simsboro, under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 21, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, and Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Milton was born July 5, 1935, in Trout, Louisiana, to Alva B. Odom Sr. and Ann Crane Odom.
He entered into rest on February 18, 2022, in Ruston. Milton was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Al Odom and James Odom, and sister Nita Beck.
Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Faye Burks Odom of Arcadia; two sons, Milton Brian Odom (Ali) of Simsboro and Keith Lane Odom, (Susan) of Choudrant; two children by marriage Terrie Daugherty Jordan of Simsboro and Russell Daugherty (Sharon) of Livingston, Texas.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd Odom (Linda) and two sisters, Dolores Williams of Coushatta and Glenda Reed (Norlen “Joe”) of Simsboro and numerous nieces and nephews.
Milton, the son of a Baptist preacher, grew up in Hico, Louisiana, and graduated from Hico High School in 1953. He entered Louisiana Tech in June 1953, and after two years of Military Service in the U.S. Army and one year in the insurance business, he received a B.S. Degree in Education in January 1960, in August 1963 he received a M.A. Degree from Louisiana Tech.
Milton received over 60 graduate hours above his Master’s Degree. Milton’s career in education allowed him to serve as a teacher and coach at Choudrant High School and Ringgold High School. He was privileged to serve as Principal at Choudrant High School and Bienville High School.
Milton spent 18 years in the Bienville Parish School Board Central Office serving as Director of several programs including Curriculum, Elementary and Secondary Education, Child Welfare and Attendance, and Tax Administrator/Collector for the School Board. He retired from the Bienville Parish School System June 1994.
Milton was a member of First Baptist Church in Arcadia for 40 years. He was a Deacon and served as the Sunday School Director as well as a Sunday School Teacher for several years. He was a member of the adult choir and served on numerous committees throughout the years. He was an active member and officer of the J.O.Y. Club. Milton was President of the Bienville Parish Active Teachers (LAE) for many years and following his retirement he served as president of the Bienville Parish Retired Teachers Association over 20 years.
He was a Gideon and served as President of the Bienville Gideon Camp. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. Additionally, he was a member of the Lions Club and a charter member of the Arcadia Depot Museum. Milton’s desire in life first and foremost was to serve his Lord. He loved his family and treasured his church family and friends. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be Steven Smith, Micah Crawford, Jason Anderson, Robby Lewis, Lee Futch and Tim Nutt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Hico Lunch Bunch: Curt Tubbs, Donald Moon, Ed Heard, Randall Fuller, Wayne Houck, Wyly Foster, David Fowler, Joel Murphy, Mickey Murphy and Roland Kay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Arcadia.
