Clara ‘Opal’ Pesnell Hinkie

Funeral services for Clara “Opal” Pesnell Hinkie, age 99, a native and resident of Ruston, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston with Bro. Clayton Owens and Dr. Chris Craig officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Opal was born on August 22, 1922, in Ruston, and passed away March 10, 2022 in Ruston.

Opal was a graduate of Ansley High School, a member of the First Baptist Church of Ruston, and a member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association, having worked building B-24 Liberators at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation in Fort Worth, Texas during World War II.

She retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company after 28 years of service and was a volunteer Pink Lady at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston for many years. “Ginny” as she was known by her family, enjoyed quilting and working in her garden.

She surrounded herself with plants, flowers and pictures of her friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond P. Pesnell and Adeline Woodward Pesnell; husband, Ray T. Hinkie; daughter, Jeanmarie Tuggle; daughter-in-law, Debra Farley Hinkie; brothers and their wives, Raymond (Cecil) and Una Marie Wilhite Pesnell, Eugene (Bo) and Elaine Grigsby Pesnell, and Averett (Buddy) and Effie (Betty) Pilcher Pesnell; and sister, Melba Pesnell Glenn.

She is survived by sons, Ross Hinkie and wife Julie of Corpus Christi, Texas, Michael Hinkie and wife Janet of Houma, and Brad Hinkie of Ruston; brother-in-law, Benjamin Glenn of Titusville, Florida; son-in-law, William Tuggle of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren, Christian Hinkie and wife Jessica of Houston, Texas; Laura Hinkie Wattigney and husband Clint of Luling, Skye Tuggle and wife Tanya of Jacksonville, Florida; Megan Hinkie and partner Wes Hennig of Corpus Christi, Texas; Nathan Hinkie of San Antonio, Texas, and Benjamin Hinkie of Corpus Christi, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren, Elijah, Evan, John Luke, and Anna Cate Hinkie of Houston, Ivy Wattigney of Luling and Adelyn and Ellis Hennig of Corpus Christi.

Family will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Owens Memorial Chapel.
