Betty Joyce Goodman Plunkett
Beloved wife, mom, “Grammy,” “Old Grammy,” and friend, Betty Joyce Goodman Plunkett, peacefully left this life, surrounded by her daughters on February 21, 2024.
She is now resting in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, after a brief illness.
Betty was born on September 12, 1935, in Delhi, to Fred and Annie Goodman.
She was one of six children. She married her sweetheart, Morris Ray, on August 4, 1956, in Delhi.
While Morris was in the U.S. Army, they lived all over Louisiana before settling in Baton Rouge, in 1963. Betty earned her BA in Education at Louisiana State University in 1975.
She began her teaching career in Baton Rouge where she served as an elementary teacher at Melrose Elementary before retiring from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Morris Ray Plunkett; two daughters, Sharon Plunkett Purvis and Amy Plunkett Dickerson and her sonin- law, Alan Purvis; three grandchildren, Amy Skinner (Chris), Drew Dickerson, and Stephanie Boyle (Paul); and seven beautiful great granddaughters, Elizabeth Skinner, Sadie Skinner, Rae Boyle, Hallie Skinner, Ryan Boyle, Addison Skinner, and Claire Boyle; and numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Annie Goodman; brothers, Larry Goodman and Ron Goodman; and one daughter.
Funeral services for Betty Joyce Goodman Plunkett will be held at 2 p. m., Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston with Bro. Harrell Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Garden.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston.
Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Purvis, Chris Skinner, Paul Boyle, Drew Dickerson, Adam Plunkett, and Steve Plunkett.
