Don Howard

On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, Don Howard, long time resident of Zachary, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 72.

Don moved from Zachary to spend his high school and college years in Ruston, where he met and married his high school sweetheart Kathy Crawford Howard. After graduating from Louisiana Tech, they moved back to Zachary to raise their family.

He worked for 40 years as an environmental consultant. Don’s Christian faith and sharing that faith with others was an essential part of his life, teaching Bible study for over 40 years. He received great joy coaching and watching his children and grandchildren playing their favorite sports. Papa Don was their biggest fan. He loved the great outdoors, hunting and fishing, and traveling with family and friends.

His hobbies included his love of music, playing several instruments, and spending his time as an amateur artist painting and carving decoys and fly rods for family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathy; their daughter, Heather Prejean and husband Andre and their children Jack and Holden; their son, Wes Howard and wife Presly, and their children Briley and Cullen; one brother, Rennie Howard and wife Becky; three brothers-in-law, Gary Crawford and wife Sara, Doug Crawford and wife Sherri, Dickie Crawford and wife Toni; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins he loved dearly.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Elizabeth “Libby” Burkhalter Howard; and in-laws, Clyde and Carmen Alexander Crawford.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 10, from 4-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Zachary. Visitation will continue Monday, October 11, at 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m.

Graveside services will be Monday, October 11, at 4 p.m. in Ruston, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
