Dr. Charles L. Foxworth

Dr. Charles L. Foxworth, 90, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on October 19, 2022. Visitation will be at noon at First Baptist Church, Ruston, with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. on Friday October 21, 2022.

Dr. Foxworth was born August 4, 1932, in Silsbee, Texas, to Steve and Mamie Foxworth. He was ordained as a minister in 1950 and pastored several churches in Louisiana and Texas. His Macedonian call led the family to Roswell, New Mexico, in 1961, where he taught at Roswell Senior High School and Eastern New Mexico University–Roswell. In 1971 he relocated his family to Ruston to teach at Louisiana Tech University, where he retired in 1996 as Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Education.

He received his B.A. degree from East Texas Baptist College, M.A. degree from the University of Houston, Texas, and his Ph.D from Louisiana State University. Dr. Foxworth received numerous awards and honors throughout his successful career, such as being selected Teacher of the Year 5 times. He has co- authored 3 books and his biography is included in 19 national and international publications. He has served on numerous national, state, and local committees and conducted numerous teacher workshops.

He was the first faculty member at Louisiana Tech to receive the AMOCO Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award. Dr. Foxworth has taught and mentored thousands of students over the years. He has served the Lord in various capacities as Sunday School teacher, music director, pastor, supply minister, interim pastor, and thoughts devotional writer. He is predeceased by his parents; son, David Foxworth; brothers, Travis Foxworth, Jack Foxworth, Steve Foxworth; sisters, Violet Ganann and Virginia Dowden.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Hudson Foxworth, of 72 years; daughter, Judy Foxworth; granddaughter, Teri Freeman (Jason); grandson, Todd Ray; great- grandchildren, Tyler Freeman, Zachary Ray, Tucker Ray, Braden Ray, Brooklyn Ray, and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Dr. Foxworth was a man of integrity and impeccable character. He loved the Lord and always gave him the glory for his joy-filled life.

When referring to his heavenly home, he would always say, “see you at the house!”
